Monday was our day to go an hour and a half west of Portland
to Cannon Beach for the day. Rod and I took the kids in our car and followed
the others with Tully in Michelle’s car. We drove through towering pine trees
and stopped about 20 minutes out of CB at Camp 18, an old logging camp, now a
restaurant made of gigantic logs! The cross beam on the ceiling was huge!! We had
a lovely breakfast/lunch and headed off.
Rod dropped us and our stuff of at the beach, and we walked
down near a tidal pool to set up camp for the day. The water was brisk but not
as cold as the further out ocean with waves coming in. The kids were soon
soaked! They worked at building a sand castle with the broken bucket I had
found on the beach in Coeur d’Alene!
Sarah went off with Betty and Michelle to jump the waves. Jackson soon
found a “friend” – a 7 year old boy – to build the castle and play with. Two
guys came out on the beach riding a couple of beautiful horses bareback and
came over so the kids could pet them! Kerry and Michelle (and Tully) went
walking about 3 miles down to Haystack and back. Kerry posted a gorgeous
panoramic shot she took on Facebook!
We soaked up the sun for several hours and relaxed, then
walked around town to the little shops and bought ice cream. We headed back to
Portland after a lovely beach day with only Monday crowds! We were so tired
from the day we went back to Michelle’s and had snacks and drinks and went to
bed! No dinner was needed!
