Kerry, Jason and Jackson and Sarah had been visiting Bud, my
ex, up on Bainbridge Island in Seattle. They were taking the train down on
Saturday from there to visit for the long weekend with Judy and family.
Michelle called them and had them get off in Vancouver, WA, rather than
Portland, since we were all over at Judy’s anyway. They arrived and the
surprise of Rod and I being there was overshadowed with the fascination of
Tuffy, Robert’s dog!! He’s a small white with brown and black markings, a
terrier mix. They haven’t been around dogs before so the novelty never wore
off! Over the course of the long weekend there was Tully, Tuffy and then Kendra
and Christopher’s Edie, a tall beige-colored poodle!!
It was great to see all of them! They had had a great visit
in the Seattle area, riding a train from the airport, then a ferry over to the
island. Then a week and a half visit with Grandpa! Since Bud doesn’t cook and
owed several dinners to friends, Jason cooked for two dinner parties, and they
attended another one in a beautiful home overlooking Puget Sound! They went to
the aquarium, Pike’s Market, and Music museum where they did several videos of
playing instruments. Cute! All in all, a great time!
We hung around Michelle’s (they all stayed in her basement,
Betty moved with the guys to Vancouver) in the morning. BTW, I forgot to
mention my Saturday a.m. bike ride along the Columbia River from Michelle’s
house. I stopped when I passed at the local high school a Farmer’s Market. I
found this booth where Bev was sewing away on her machine, running on a
battery, making NFL/AFL round hot pads! Very cute and I bought Lions ones for
Rod, Packer ones for others, Packer bib, and baby blanket/bibs/set. I think it
would be something fun for me to do at home at night so will use them for
patterns and give it a try, if I can find the materials. I came back after my
bike ride with the car after Michelle came home (she had gone in for a few
hours work and breakfast with friends from Kalamazoo in the a.m., since she was
headed up this week to San Juan Islands and Vancouver with us – she took the
whole week off!).
On Sunday we made salads for the party that afternoon with
all of Rob’s family at Judy’s. We headed over there and had a great cookout in
their beautiful backyard. Kalob is now 17 and 6’2” and going to be a senior. He
and Cristina, 15, had just gotten back by bus the night before from a church
youth mission in San Francisco working with the homeless with lots of stories.
Isabel, 13, played with the kids and then the other two joined in. They were
wonderful indulging the kids in chasing games!! Jackson and Sarah had met
Isabel last year at Sunset Beach, but not the other two.
We celebrated Kalob and Rob’s birthdays and had a banana split
cake Michelle had made with tons of candles. Sharon, et. al. were leaving at 4
the next morning for two weeks in Illinois, visiting her brother, then Shannon,
Lee and the boys up in Whitewater, and running a 7 mile race! Lovely family and
nice visit!
Michelle and I, and Kendra and Christopher briefly stopped
to see Judy before heading home that night at the hospital. She was going to be
released home the next day. She was SOOOO much better than Friday when I’d seen
her.
